Saint Stefano

Motovun was made a UNESCO site in 2007. The church of San Stefano is a fantastic church, in fact it is very large for a town of only 500 inhabitants, with a baroque style, designed by Palladio, an Italian architect, who was regarded as the most influential person in the development of Western architecture. Palladio lived in the 16th century, and was born in Padua, which was then part of the Venetian Republic, in the town of Motovun, and he travelled for the church. The church contains beautiful stone statues made by the Venetian sculptor Francesco Bonazzo in the 18th century and a painting of the Last Supper created by Stephano Celestio.

The roofs of the church were painted by Giuseppe Bisson, who was a Venetian baroque painter. Everything is beautiful in this church, the organs are designed by Callido and brought had been from Venice. Each work of the church has a great historical value within it. You can also climb the bell tower to get an even better view of the surroundings of the place.
