Church of San Juan Bautista
Porto Vecchio, situated on the southeast coast of Corsica, is a coastal town which offers many tourist attractions. There are also many magnificent beaches around the city and its historic center. The Church is situated in the center of the city, it is named after the patron saint of Porto Vecchio. Its construction was completed in the 19th Century ... When the inhabitants of the countryside came to the city they wanted to reconnect with the same architecture of their churches. The bell tower of the church of San Juan Bautista is thus a replica of Quenza city, the "capital" of the country they left behind.
However, the church was not finished at all: it was missing two columns and a patio that were part of the original design. But the church was built as we see it today thanks to the donations of the inhabitants, and the lack of money which limited the project. But it doesn´t matter, I was totally fascinated by the beauty of its architecture. Also worth seeing, just opposite, is the Chapel of the Holy Cross, which was built in the 17th Century, and belongs to the unique Corsican brotherhood Porto Vecchio.
