A reliable place to have quality food

Granada is a city with a great variety of restaurants. But this restaurant stands out among the multitude because it is a popular restaurant where the value for money is extraordinary. We found it by chance. We had booked a table at an Italian nearby, but the queue reached the street and you got the feeling that inside was too cramped for comfort. So we decided to try The Saffron. We had had heard wonders, and we were not disappointed.

To find it you must head towards the centre of Granada. On the right side of the Cathedral, in front of the town hall, is the Palacio de los Patos (Palace of Ducks) and on its right hand side can is where the road of the restaurant is. A definite plus is that there is public parking in front of it, so you don't have to worry about where to park the car.

It is a tiny place, for around 50 I guess. It is decorated tastefully. But we chose to sit on the terrace outside even though there was a risk of rain due to the unstable weather at the time. We didn't get wet and there was a group of girls from Granada having a hen party next to us. At the front of the restaurant there is a placard with the daily meal and the price, 11.50€. I think this scares some people, ve would prefer spending half a day waiting at the Italian to quickly eat a plate of spaghetti for ten euros.

The Saffron is a specialist in tapas. We had just sat down and they gave us three huge pinchos (appetisers) to go with our drinks. After reading the menu we decided to go for tapas. The pinchos are very original, like the prawns with paté and caramel, pure delight in the clever combination of flavours. The prices are surprising, one pincho costs between 0.90 and 1.50€ and you are full after three or four of them because they are so big.

I went for the stew of the day, a dish of rice and vegetables that killed my appetite and it was quite difficult to wolf down a combination of meat and octopus afterwards. My friends decided to stick with the pinchos.

In the end we paid 10€ each and asked for the cook to come out, surprised by the quality, quantity, presentation and price. They want to excel in local gastronomy and they are definitely going to succeed, because everyone ve goes there and has tapas comes back.

We now have a reliable place to have quality food in Granada. They are surrounded by many competitors but what they offer has no rival.
