The Garden of Bomarzo
The Monster Park, also known as the Sacro Bosco, is located in the town of Bomarzo in the Viterbo province. It was designed by the architect Pirro Ligorio and built between 1552 and 1580 at the instigation of prince Pier Francesco Orsini after the death of his wife Giulia Farnese.
The ample park stretches between the leafy green trees of the pretty forest and is dotted with statues and sculptures of monsters and beasts charged with symbolic importance.
