The 'Liver Birds'
The building is one of the 'Three Graces' of the city and the dragons on the roof are the emblem of Liverpool. The 'Liver Birds' are mythological birds that always, says the story, have walked the shores of Liverpool. The architect Walter Audrey Thomas who designed this building in 1908 choose to represent the mythological birds not this that has become the pride of the city and bears its emblem.
