Royal Castle
The Royal Castle, situated at the bottom of the harbor, is a work of art, well described by the tourist office in the city. It was constructed on Roman ruins, for the Counts of Roussillon and the Kings of Aragon between the years 1276 and 1344, and hosted the court of the Kings of Majorca. It was occupied by the Spanish until the year 1642 and was declared a historic monument in the year 1922, occupied by the French army until the year 1945. Since 1951, it has belonged to the Conseil Général des Pyrénées Orientales.
