A famous general
Robert Clive (Born September 29, 1725 and died November 22, 1774), a Major General in the British army, was one of the key figures in the creation of British India. He established military and political supremacy in southern India and Bengal. However, when he returned to England in 1773, a motion was made the House of Commons claiming that he had abused his powers. The motion was denied but, extremely affected by it, Clive committed suicide by stabbing himself in 1774 at his home in Berkeley Square.
