An important river
We might be looking at one of the most important rivers in the northeast of England, both for its size, the landscapes it passes through, and its historical importance. The river gives its name to an entire region (along with another river): Tyne & Wear. It runs through the beautiful County Durham, where it offers beautiful views of the cathedral.
The river starts in the Pennines valley and moves east for just over 97 kilometers until it reaches the sea on the Sunderland coast. From a historical perspective, its importance lies in the freshwater that it brought inland, resulting in the building of many important settlements, including Durham, Sunderland, Bishop Auckland, Chester-le-Street and many others.
