Most extensive in Cuba

Calm, quiet, unhurried. Mirror of a blue sky with just a few clouds, the river Cauto [Cautious], true to its name, seemed to go unnoticed, disguised as a lake to enjoy their walk through the Pearl of Cuba.

And it's right and it's right to be proud, because it is the longest river on the island, but not the biggest. In recent decades the people of the provinces through which it runs seemed to forget what it meant to them and began to contaminate it with organic and industrial waste that endangers it.

Now, government plans for rescue have had such good results that the Cubans are back fishing on its banks, for fresh and tasty food in clean waters.
