Rifugio with the best play list ever
Rifugio with the best play list ever. To get to the rifugio we walked from Prati di Tivo up Val Maone. Allow plenty of time and check out the Arno waterfall, the tiny shepherds huts and the amazing array of perfect picnic sites.
The rifugio is small, with limited beds and water and only one toilet so be sure to book in advance. The staff are amazing, super friendly, great cooks with impeccable taste in music. Delicious legume soups and locally produced organic sausages with polenta.
We stayed for two nights. On the second day, after getting soaked on Monte Aquila, we came back early and ended up joining a wine tasting event. Vini d'altura specialize in aging local wines (trebbiano and pecorino) at high altitude. They organize taste comparisons of the original and the high altitude bottles at rifugi in the Gran Sasso area.
