One of most satisfying peaks to climb
Monte Prado at 2054m. is one of most satisfying peaks to climb in the apeninnes. It is not technically difficult, its central position provides a good vista of both the Tuscan and Emilian countryside, the lake at its feet appears jewel-like from the summit and on days when few people are about there is the possibility of seeing marmots.
It can be approached from a number of directions all starting from the village of Civago. The shortest route is to follow the signs for Rifugio Battisti and then approach via the lake on Sentiero 631. A longer and more rewarding route is to pass by Rifugio San Leonardo following the 691 for Passo delle Forbici, which brings you to the 00 path. This is the high level long distance path which follows the apeninne ridge. Walking along this path you climb a series of lower peaks before reaching Prado itself. The second route requires a full day and good weather.
