Gaudi Centre Reus

Reus, situada a unos 10 km. de la costa y que desde 1857 a 1910 fuera la segunda ciudad de Cataluña tras Barcelona. Es una ciudad joven , bulliciosa, que tiene vida, en ella se puede disfrutar y enriquecerse recorriendo su famosa Ruta Modernista en cuyo circuito podéis descubrir los 26 edificios mas representativos, siendo el mas famoso la Casa Navás (1902) situada en la Pza. Mercadal dónde está el Ayuntamiento. Es el corazón de la ciudad, junto con la Pza. Prim, quedando unidas las dos plazas por su famosa calle comercial de Monterols. En la Pza. Mercadal también esta situado el Museo Gaudi dedicado a su vida y obra, dotado de la mas avanzada tecnología audiovisual para acercarse mas a su obra y adentrarse en la personal concepción de la realidad que inspiró las obras del artista. A Antonio Gaudí se le disputan su lugar de nacimiento entre Riudoms y Reus, lo que está documentado es que fué bautizado en la Iglesia de San Pere de Reus. Mi rincón para comer en Reus está a escasos metros de la Pza. Mercadal es el RESTAURANTE L'ESTEL ( calle del Vent, 11 ) este restaurante familiar con una excelente cocina tradicional, trato cercano, ambiente distendido, hace que el visitante se encuentre como en casa. Os recomiendo que a parte de los postres de la carta, preguntéis por los excelentes y caseros postres de la hija Silvia como su brazo de gitano y excepcionalmente su famoso Tiramisú.

Reus es una ciudad perfecta para visitarla durante un día, con una amplia oferta de actividades que conseguirá que no te aburras ni durante un segundo. Es una población con una larga tradición emprendedora, siendo incluso durante los siglos XVIII y XIX uno de los centros industriales más importantes de España, gracias sobre todo a la exportación del aguardiente, generando una clase burguesa bastante importante. Por otro lado, a principios del siglo XX, la corriente arquitectónica modernista estaba en plena ebullición, así que con estos ingredientes no quedaba otra que Reus se minara de lujosos edificios construidos bajo este estilo, convirtiéndola en la ciudad con más edificios modernistas de Cataluña por detrás de Barcelona. Son casi 80 los catalogados bajo esta corriente, pero para conocer los más importantes, se ha creado la llamada “Ruta del Modernismo de Reus” que te llevará por los 29 más importantes y mejor conservados. Alucina con los edificios creados por arquitectos de la talla Pere Caselles, Joan Rubió i Bellver y sobre todo, Lluís Domènech i Montaner, mundialmente conocido por su obra del Palau de la Música de Barcelona. Casi todos estos edificios están repartidos por el centro, siendo la ruta muy fácil de recorrer. Si quieres seguir un orden, lo mejor es que te hagas con un mapa como éste en la oficina de turismo. De todas formas no es necesario verlos todos, siendo los más importantes y bonitos (a nuestro entender) los siguientes: Casa Navas Casa Bartolí Casa Querol Casa Rull Casa Munné Parte de esta ruta está el Instituto Pere Mata, un centro psiquiátrico construido en el año 1898. Ubicado a las afueras de la ciudad, fue uno de los proyectos más importantes de Lluís Domènech i Montaner. El psiquiátrico aún sigue en funcionamiento pero el pabellón más espectacular, el “de los distinguidos”, si está abierto al público para deleite de los visitantes. No hay que ser muy listo del por qué del nombre: era el pabellón donde ingresaban los pacientes más adinerados. Esta joya del modernismo rebosa detalles por los cuatro costados, desde su espectacular fachada hasta su amplio hall, pasando por sus habitaciones, el comedor y los pasillos. ¡Incluso los baños son llamativos!. Precio: 5 € Como no, hablar de Reus es haceelo también de Antonio Gaudí, el famosísimo arquitecto catalán, que nació en Reus, pasando aquí toda su infancia y adolescencia antes de que se marchara a Barcelona para dar rienda suelta al genio que llevaba dentro. Curiosamente, no hay ninguna obra suya en la ciudad, cumpliendo con la premisa de que “nadie es profeta en su tierra”. Hubo varios proyectos para que Gaudí construyera en su ciudad, pero por una cosa u otra, nunca llegaron seguir adelante. No obstante, Reus está orgullosa de su paisano y sólo hay que darse un paseo por la ciudad para comprobar que su recuerdo está muy presente, habiendo incluso una ruta que te llevará a descubrir las huellas que dejó el arquitecto. Podríamos empezar por su casa natal, en el nº4 del Carrer Sant Vicenç, donde una placa recuerda su nacimiento. Justo al lado está la escultura “Gaudí adolescent”, que representa al arquitecto jugando con unas bolas doradas. Para continuar siguiendo los pasos de Gaudí, nada mejor que visitar el lugar en el que fue bautizado, la Iglesia Prioral de San Pedro, la más espectacular de la ciudad. Para terminar, dirígete a la Plaça Mercadal para visitar el Gaudí Centre, sin duda la joya de la corona del turismo de Reus. Más que de un museo, se trata de un centro interpretativo en el que a través de sencillas explicaciones con audiovisuales y maquetas se repasa la carrera de este genio de la arquitectura sumergiéndote en su universo. Me encantó la maqueta del Parc Guëll de Barcelona, en el que te explican como ya en esta época diseñaba sus edificios de una manera ecológica. ¡Dale al botón! Sin duda, el Gaudí Centre es el mejor homenaje que Reus podía hacerle a su hijo más predilecto. En cuanto a las compras y fruto de la tradición emprendedora, Reus siempre ha sido una ciudad con una gran oferta comercial, habiéndose mantenido hasta nuestros días. Es tal la oferta, que se considera el casco histórico como un “centro comercial al aire libre”. No obstante, en las últimas décadas, muchos de los negocios históricos han sido sustituidos por las típicas franquicias que podemos encontrar en cualquier lugar. Sólo algunos de estos “históricos negocios”, como por ejemplo la Cereria Salvadò, Queralt, Jofre o la Pastisseria Padreny, han conseguido sobrevivir a estos tiempos modernos. ¡Démosle un aplauso! Por último, hay que hacer mención del vermut. Bien es sabido que en Reus ha existido una gran cultura del vermut, habiendo sido a finales del siglo XIX una de las pioneras en la producción de esta bebida elaborada a base vino, alcohol y una mezcla de hierbas naturales. Hasta más de 30 empresas se dedicaron a la elaboración de este brebaje, convirtiendo la ciudad como una de las capitales mundiales en la producción de bebida. Lamentablemente, a finales del siglo XX, el vermut pasó de moda y por consiguiente, cerraron casi todas las fábricas de Reus. Hoy día el vermut ha vuelto a ponerse de moda, ocurriendo algo parecido que con el “gin-tonic”, siendo raro no ver las terrazas a rebosar de gente tomando el aperitivo. Así pues, para que una visita a Reus sea considerada “visita”, deber incluir alguna actividad relacionada con esta bebida. Una buena opción es conocer la antigua fábrica de Rofes, hoy reconvertida en un restaurante que mantiene un ambiente industrial bastante melancólico. Podrás disfrutar del aperitivo sobre alguno de sus antiguos toneles y rodeado de la antigua maquinaria de la fábrica. ¡A qué mola! Pero si hay algo que nos gustó, fue el Museo del Vermut, el primero del mundo. El museo fue abierto por Joan Tàpias, un amante del vermut que empezó a coleccionar cualquier cosa que estuviera relacionada con esta bebida hasta llegar lo que es hoy día, una recopilación con más de 5.000 artículos que por cierto, tenía apilados como podía en su casa. Así surgió la idea de montar un museo para que todo el mundo pudiese disfrutar de la colección. El museo, que es además un restaurante, se levantó sobre un edificio abandonado (cómo no modernista) en el había una antigua fábrica de tejidos, del que tuvieron que respetar buena parte de lo que había, dándole un toque industrial y añejo que tanto se lleva ahora. No le falta detalle y solo con ver las fotos uno puede hacerse la idea la cantidad de artículos que hay. Y por supuesto, nos tomamos un vermut en su preciosa terraza al aire libre. Relajados, picando unas patatillas con aceitunas y disfrutando del momento. La verdad, es que como podéis ver, son muchas las cosas que se pueden ver y hacer en esta ciudad.

A good option is to know the old Rofes factory, now converted into a restaurant that maintains a rather melancholic industrial environment.
