2 reviews of Resolution Park

nice summer park

Resolution Park is actually a huge deck that has many levels from which to enjoy the views of Cook Inlet, named for Captain Cook, one of the first to set foot on land in this part of Alaska. A statue of Captain Cook sits on the deck. In the summer, this is an amazing place to spend an afternoon enjoying the view and good weather.

Resolution Park

Resolution Park

The park is named after the flagship of captain Cook and offers visitors one of the best views of Anchorate, which includes Cook Inlet, Mount Susitna and the spectacular Mount McKinley on clear days. The centerpiece is the Captain Cook Monument, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the exploration of Alaska by James Cook. In 1776, during his third cross bar on HMS Resolution, sailed north in search of the Northwest Passage (a navigable stretch between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans) and pas by the current location of Anchorage, giving its name to Cook Inlet. The bronze statue of Derek Freeborn, natural size, modeled on the one in Whitby (United Kingdom), place from which Cook sailed for the first time, was donated to Anchorage during the Bicentennial of United States, in 1976.
