Republique Square

The Praça da República (Republic Square) is the main plaza of the military compound known as Almeida, which was formerly called the Terreiro do Poco. This magnificent site is located just inside the Gate of San Francisco.

It has pleasant gardens with lawns, trees, and a small playground. In the center of the park there is a large granite cross which is known as the Monument to the Fallen in the World War.
