Historic
The Red Lion Pub is in the centre of Rotherham. The city, once a major industrial town in northern England, has put a lot of effort to modernize itself. Most of the facades have been painted in cheerful tones, making the central pubs not so crappy looking. And the Red lion, despite it's new facade, still retains its age old decor. The interesting thing is that you are in the old historic centre of Rotherham, in a beautiful historic building, which used to be an inn for traders who travelled from north to south in the style of the caravans of the Middle East. They stopped for the night at the inn with their horses so they could rest, and the men stayed at the Red Lion.
The upper floors are still very well preserved, with beautiful painted windows that let in a soft light. It's a place I recommend for noon and the early afternoon, but avoid match days because the British like to drink a lot and can be aggressive when their team loses!
