Rectorate of the University

Sulla piazza del Congresso è uno dei primi edifici ad essere notato: il palazzo del Rettorato si distingue per la sua forma imponente e massiccia, con le torri e le bandiere che sventolano sulla facciata principale. Costruito tra il 1899 e il 1902 da due architetti viennesi, doveva essere la nuova sede dell’Assemblea della Carniola. Divenne la sede principale dell’ateneo nel 1919, anno in cui nacque l’università di Lubiana. Al suo posto fino al 1747 sorgeva il palazzo del Vicedomine e qui fu ospitato il Congresso della Santa Alleanza, ma nemmeno questo edificio fu risparmiato dal terremoto del 1895.

On the square of Congress is one of the first buildings to be noticed: the building of the Rectory is distinguished by its imposing and massive, with towers and flags waving on the main facade. Built between 1899 and 1902 by two Viennese architects, was to be the new home of the Assembly of Carniola. It became the headquarters of the university in 1919, the year he was born the University of Ljubljana. In its place until 1747 stood the palace of the Vicedomine here and was host to the Congress of the Holy Alliance, but even this building was spared by the earthquake of 1895.
