Real de Catorce
In Zacatecas we went in search of the places that we had seen in the movie "The Mexican". The place we found was traced to 1778 when people discovered lots of silver in the mines and hundreds of people flocked to the town, sparking a genuine Silver Rush. Royal Mines of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception of Guadalupe de los Alamos de Catorce, better known as Real de Catorce, was founded in 1779 with the discovery of rich silver mines. The site was inaccessible - there were no roads, no water and getting supplies there was difficult. When the mines stopped producing the usual amount it was thought that the town would die and eventually become a ghost town.
