One of the best preserved cities in the country

Rasnov is a Saxon peasant citadel built on the rock of a mountain overlooking the great city of Rasnov. It was built by peasants in the XIV century. If entering from below, leave the car in a small parking lot. Admission costs 8 lei, which are about 2.50 euros. It is open daily. From above, it dominates the whole meadow and the mountain views are fantastic. You can't see Brasov, located just behind the mountain. Behind the walls, there is a small set of low houses which looks like a mini village. Most were restored for visitors. There is a 140 foot well dug by Turkish prisoners for years, in exchange for their freedom.

The people were ready in case of invasion, which happened often in this region. The fort protected the Burtzenland county border, about 15 km away. It's one of the best preserved cities in the country. You can also climb on foot in 20 minutes from the center of Rasnov. The beginning of the trail is easy to find at the foot of the hill.
