Remnants of the Past
You almost get carried away when you get to Mont-Louis. You can leave the car in a parking lot outside the city walls, or arrive by the famous "train jeune" to visit one of France's most beautiful and flirty fortified villages. Mont-Louis is hidden behind an impregnable fortress. You cross a small bridge, then a tunnel, and poof, you're inside. The architecture is regal, yet superb and extremely elegant. Although the citadel is rigid, the great views, landscape and nature give the city an exquisite serenity. This simplicity, beauty, history, art and nature are typical of southern France, and a wise combination.
