A charming hotel
The Quinta das Lágrimas in Coimbra is a charming hotel. It stands on the Mondego river, on the opposite bank from the city centre, but close to a footbridge and with a good view over the old town and the university. The history of the gardens dates back to the fourteenth century, and legend has it that the park and its springs was the site of the love story between Don Pedro and Ines de Castro. The hotel stands in a nineteenth century palace with an attached modern building containing rooms, a restaurant and a spa with an indoor pool. The older rooms have more history, but the bathrooms are nicer in the modern part.
