Quaibrücke

El puente Quaibrücke se encuentra en el costado sur del casco histórico de la ciudad de Zúrich. Se trata de una de las estructuras que cruzan el río Limmat de este a oeste, uniendo la plaza Bürkliplatz con la Bellevueplatz. El puente comenzó a ser construido en el año 1880 y fue inaugurado en 1884 bajo la dirección del famoso ingeniero Arnold Bürkli. Anteriormente, para cruzar el Limmat era necesario viajar unos dos kilómetros hacia el norte para utilizar uno de los puentes cercanos a la estación de trenes, o bien tomar una lancha entre ambos costados. A un costado del puente se encuentra una serie de bunkers construidos durante la década de 1940. En 1984, la estructura del puente tuvo que ser reemplazada, y aunque se propuso convertirlo en un área exclusivamente peatonal, finalmente se rechazó la idea. Actualmente, el “Quaibrücke” cuenta con carriles para automóviles, tranvía, una ciclovía y dos senderos peatonales.

The Quaibrücke bridge is located on the southern side of the historic center of the city of Zurich. It is one of the structures that cross the Limmat river from east to west, linking the Bürkliplatz square with the Bellevueplatz. The bridge began to be constructed in the year 1880 and was inaugurated in 1884 under the direction of the famous engineer Arnold Bürkli. Previously, to cross the Limmat it was necessary to travel about two kilometers to the north to use one of the bridges near the train station, or to take a boat between both sides. On the side of the bridge there is a series of bunkers built during the 1940s. In 1984, the structure of the bridge had to be replaced, and although it was proposed to convert it into an exclusively pedestrian area, the idea was finally rejected. Currently, the "Quaibrücke" has lanes for cars, tram, a bike path and two pedestrian paths.
