Punta del Este is a resort city, located on the extreme southern peninsular of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (ROU), where the Rio de la Plata ends and the Atlantic Ocean begins. It is one of the most exclusive spas in South America and a top meeting point of the upper classes of both Uruguay and Argentina, for many years, and in recent years to international jet setters. Many Uruguayans and Argentinians have summer residences located in this city and spend their holiday season (from December to March) "in the East". It has grown and expanded dramatically, and those people that visited many years ago but haven´t returned since, will find a new city that is no longer confined to the Peninsula but extends along both coasts to places you never imagined before that would become populated.
