Puerta de Palmas

Fue todo un acierto ir en tren a Badajoz para salir caminando de la estación y cruzar el Puente de Palmas por el que se puede divisar el Alcazaba, el casco y a lo lejos al final del puente la Puerta de Palmas. Y es que ya empezando el puente y llegando a la Puerta es cuando se contempla la belleza de Badajoz que reside en el centro y más en el casco antiguo. El centro es ciudad y lo que es el resto no hay mucho más allá del ocio... En fin, la Puerta Nueva que es como se llamaba antiguamente, es una puerta monumental de la muralla que rodeaba a la ciudad. En una de las fachadas se observa un arco de medio punto con el escudo de Carlos V, y en la otra se encuentra una pequeña capilla de la Virgen de los Ángeles.

Cette porte qui constitue le symbole et l'emblème de la ville de Badajoz se trouve en face du Pont Palmas, au bord du Guadiana, à proximité du bastion de San Vicente. Elle a été la porte d'entrée la plus importante de la ville, qui abritait le contrôle douanier la prison royale au XIXe siècle. Il ressemble à un arc de triomphe, avec deux grandes tours circulaires crénelées sur les deux côtés du corps central. La porte a deux façades différentes, une de chaque côté. Sur la façade extérieure (vers le fleuve) se trouve le bouclier de l'empereur Charles V et une inscription commémorative. Celle qui donne sur la place a une espèce de terrasse et une niche avec l'image de la Vierge. Pour moi, c'est le plus beau monument de Badajoz. En bas de l'une des tours se trouve une des offices touristiques de la ville.
