New area
The opening of the grand linear park known as Mardid Río (Madrid River) has given residents and visitors alike the ability to enjoy the newly landscaped zones along the shores of Madrid’s Manzanarez River.
If you have the opportunity to go for a long walk along the main stretch of the Madrid Río Park, from the Puente del Rey to the Azrganzuela park, you’re going to see a landscaped zone that has recently opened up after this park's inauguration.
In short, I’m referring to the stretch of land that extends between the Puente del Rey, by Príncipe Pío, and the Puente of Segovia (the bridge of Segovia).
This area was once occupied by the M-30 expressway and the Avenue of Portugal and is now totally opened. Both shores of the river feature new gardens, like the Aniceto Marinas and Virgin del Puerto Gardens.
If you go walking from Príncipe Pío, cross the Puente del Rey, and head towards the Puente de Segovia, you’ll enjoy splendid panoramic views of Plaza de España, the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral.
These views were always here but are much more accessible and easy to enjoy now that the freeways have been moved underground and parks have been constructed in their place.
The new gardens of the Puente de Segovia are located at the end of this area and are more than worth the journey.
