Roman mortar and english romanticism
There is no way to reach this beautiful village without going over the bridge, rebuilt in the Victorian era in the neo-romantic style. Together with the church, it's one of the most beautiful sites in the the village, and the only way to cross the River Eamont for miles around. Some historians believe that there has been a bridge at this point since the days of the Roman Empire, as deep under the bridge there's a construction that seems to correspond to the mortar used by Romans. The bridge today is beautiful, and the views from it are really lovely, with plenty of space to take pictures or just enjoy the surroundings without being disturbed by the traffic.
