The historical bridge that stands before us today is a reconstruction of the seventeenth century bridge, which existed previously in the same location. This bridge forms the natural access point to the town of Corbridge from the A68 and A69 motorways. The oldest historical records mention the existence of this bridge in 1235 as a route to the market town of great importance in medieval times. In the year 1306 this bridge is mentioned as a point of union between the cities of Carlisle and Newcastle, which to this day attests to its importance. Local historians believe that the original bridge was built in Roman times, bridge builders par excellence which unfortunately we do not have historical documentary evidence today.

The bridge offers a nice ride, overlooking the River Tyne, well-known in the village. Without doubt one of the most important buildings of the town of Corbridge.
