Privas

Privas is the main city in Ardeche, a region with great natural beauty. If you're going to there, use public transportations, not much to do in town. There are about 8000 inhabitants, a place known for being the capital of candied chestnuts and a beautiful historic center. Apart from that, there's little more. It is the surrounding region that's spectacular and you can discover it within two or three days. Renting a bike, you can leave Privas and camp in the woods, the Ardeche gorges are one of the most beautiful places around the country. Points of interest include the diamond door, Recollets convent, and the tower of Diane de Poitiers.
