Prejmer
Prejmer village is approximately 12km from Brasov. It is popular particularly because of the fabulous peasant fortress built in the XIII century. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. The first written references to the people of Prejmer date back to 1240. But it is estimated that the church started a little earlier. Prejmer is currently the most heavily fortified village of Transylvania. This is probably because it is in the middle of a meadow and so much easier to invade than if on top of a mountain, like many towns in the region. The village is organized around a central plaza surrounding the strength of the church, and today this town planning is still followed as is the old urban structure.
