Wonderful town
Prades has become world famous thanks to the "prince of the cello": Pau Casals made this town his residence after the Spanish exile. This his arrival in Prades became the cultural highlight of the most renowned international: "Festival Pablo Casals Chamber Music " which is held from 16 of July to the 13 of August.
We arrived in this village on market day, to find the main square packed and with a charming atmosphere of a typical Saturday morning in town. Here, you can stop by any of the many terraces to have a snack or enjoy an aperitif. Prades is particularly remarkable for its Church of St Pierre which contains the largest French Baroque altarpiece. Yet, in my opinion, the most impressive thin about this place is the nature that surrounds it, the place where the mythical Canigó stands amid the spectacular Conflent Valley. Prades is the historic capital of the Catalan Conflent County, and in the vicinity the first count of Barcelona Wilfred the Hairy was born.
