Virgin black sand beaches
Portobelo is located 50 km from Colon and 100 from Panama City. On the way from Colon, you'll pass several totally virgin black sand beaches, perfect if you're looking to get away from it all. The village of Portobelo itself is as dreamy as you can imagine, located on a small, narrow bay and surrounded by lush vegetation. It's a quiet village but steeped in history, and its fort is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The local population lives off tourism, fishing and trade. There are also some pretty incredible beaches nearby and some great diving spots just a short boat ride away!
