10 reviews of Porto Giunco

Amazing beach in southern Sardinia

If you're looking for a great beach with fine white sand in southern Sardinia, Porto Giunco is the place. It's located in Villasimius just over 40km from the capital city of Cagliari.

The beach at Porto Giunco is known for its crystal-clear waters and the famous Notteri salt lagoon behind it. It's not uncommon to see pink flamingos hanging out in the lagoon. The beach has shallow water and is great for kids in that sense, but it's also windy and a haven for surfers and windsurfers as well.

There's a majestic cape to the right with a scenic lookout tower on top. Porto Giunco is very popular during summer but considering its size and length, you should have no problem finding your own little patch of sand.

Porto Giunco Beach

Sardinia is a beautiful island! But its best beaches are in Villasimius, even the beaches of Thailand are not comparable to these and the best of all at Giunco Porto, we were recommended to go here by Italians. We went three years ago and we have never been able to forget it. Clear blue water, fine white sand, impressive! Paradise! We went in June, an ideal time, since the beaches are not too full and they make us feel like walking and sunbathing (which, incidentally, be very very careful when doing it) Just behind the beach there is a lake with flamingos,(really) hundreds of flamingos, it makes

Beautiful beach in a Protected Marina Area

This is a popular beach area in the Protected Marine Area of Cape Carbonara besides the small lake of Notteri. It gets very crowded during the high season so I'd recommend trying to visit in early summer or September. All of the trails in the Protected Marine Area are very well marked and lead you to some amazing viewpoints and ancient sites like the granite extraction site (which is actually the reason behind the beautiful white sand beaches) and the coal mines (once the main economic activity of ancient Villasimius).

The trails also take you past the 17th-century Spanish tower in Porto

Blue water and pink flamingos

This treasure of the Sardinian coast is found on the east coast of Cape Carbonara. The Porto Giunco beach is nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the Notteri lagoon, with the beach forming a sort of diving line between the two. The nice thing about this is that you have two different views. If you want to see the swimmers enjoying the sea, just aim your gaze at the Med. If, on the other hand, you want to see the flocks of bright pink flamingos, all you have to do is turn around. Of course, the flamingos aren't there all year long (in fact the lagoon is dry during summer) but maybe you'll get lucky.
