Poptún

Poptún is a municipality located in the department of southeast Petén. The climate is very nice, the people are so warm and friendly and there is plenty to do during a visit. The wonderful pine forests provide a cool breeze in the evenings and the days are sunny but not as hot as in the north of the region. Poptún has a varied landscape and the east of the region reaches heights of up to one thousand meters above sea level at the summit of the Maya Mountains. The geology of the town makes it a very good place for caving explorations, jungle walks and especially the almost obligatory visit to the World Heritage caves of Najtunich.
