1 review of Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort

    Fantastic Resort

There are so many resorts to choose from in Phoenix, and many of them very affordably priced over the summer when it is H-O-T in Arizona! While I can't speak to the quality of other hotels in the area, we truly enjoyed our short stay here and would gladly recommend the hotel.

Rooms are comfortable and quite spacious: we stayed in a 1-bedroom king suite, which was more than enough space for two people. Upon entry, you'll be in the living room area, with a loveseat, coffee table, flat-screen TV, desk, coffeemaker, and mini-fridge. From there you walk through the bathroom area (the sink is out in the open, the toilet/shower have another door), which was a large enough space stocked with plush towels (it's the little things that make a difference!) and Peter Thomas Roth toiletries. From there, we had a bedroom with king bed, dresser, and another TV as well as a doorway to a small balcony that had two vinyl chairs and a small table, presumably for drinks. For the two of us, it was more space than we needed, and I'd imagine a 2 queen bed room would work nicely for families even on longer stays. One thing to mention...to me, the appeal to a suite is the ability for someone to sleep in an enclosed room while someone else is in the living area watching TV, doing work, etc. However, when you shut the door between the bedroom and living room, it's interesting to note that the bathroom is on the bedroom side of the doors. If the awake person needs to shower or use the bathroom, having the light on will most likely disrupt anyone sleeping. It would make more sense (to me) to have the divider on the other side of the bathroom, easily accessible from the living area.

Service at the hotel itself was fantastic. The front desk staff was so friendly and pleasant, and seemed to truly want you to have a great stay. The doormen were also very helpful and the two women I interacted with in the gift shop/coffee shop were wonderful and attentive. However, the staff at the River Ranch waterpark were pretty nonchalant about everything and didn't put much effort into anything.

The hotel is great if you want to do some hiking in the Squaw Peak area and it's fine if you're looking to stay at the resort. However, it's not particularly close to anything else, especially if you're fighting Phoenix rush hour traffic. We didn't find this to be an issue, but do keep it in mind.

Breakfast is not included, though there is a coffeeshop (seemed to be Starbucks affiliated) on site as well as a full service restaurant, Rico's. I was fortunate enough to get breakfast vouchers as part of my Hilton Gold membership, but otherwise prices were high.

Wi-fi is NOT included with your room rate, but if you're willing to pay for it, I found the connection to be consistent and fast enough for my basic needs.

The whole reason we stayed here was for access to their pools. The River Ranch is nice, though not quite as special as I had hoped. The staff do not go out of their way for you at all, and didn't enforce any rules whatsoever, so unfortunately there were some inconsiderate guests running and being generally mischievous. Regardless, at the river ranch there is a main pool with "waterfall", a sports pool (with basketball hoop & volleyball net), the lazy river, and a waterslide. The lazy river has basically no current in it, so do be prepared to help yourself move along. Food & drink are very expensive, and no outside food/drink are allowed, though you can obviously return to your room midday for a snack if that works better for you than paying outrageous prices. River ranch hours during our stay were 9am-8pm with the main, basic pool & hot tub within the hotel open 5am-11pm. We loved swimming early and late, and didn't spend too long at the waterpark.

I can't believe how little we paid to stay at this hotel, so I was able to overlook some of the inconveniences such as limited hours at the lazy river. It probably helped that I was given free breakfast and internet because otherwise the extras would add up quickly. However, we really enjoyed our stay and the room itself and the hotel staff were both wonderful. It's definitely worth looking into.
