Plaza Tarás Shevchenko

La Plaza Tarás Shevchenko es un rincón poco conocido en el casco histórico de Vilnius. Está dedicado a uno de los personajes más importantes de la historia ucraniana, y un símbolo también de las relaciones entre Lituania y este país del este de Europa. Shevchenko es especialmente reconocido en la ciudad de Vilnius porque fue aquí que vivió durante varios años de su vida, escribiendo en la capital lituana algunas de sus obras más importantes. The Taras Shevchenko Square is a little known corner in the historic center of Vilnius. It is dedicated to one of the most important characters in Ukrainian history, and a symbol also of the relations between Lithuania and this eastern European country. Shevchenko is especially recognized in the city of Vilnius because it was here that he lived for several years of his life, writing in the Lithuanian capital some of his most important works. The full-body statue in the center of the square is always adorned with Ukrainian and Lithuanian flags. Around this site are some historic buildings that have been preserved and converted into shops, a small street market where you can buy souvenirs and woven products, and the facilities of the Vilnius University of Economics. To get there, just walk a couple of blocks south from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
