Plaza Schipfe

La plaza Schipfe es el centro de uno de los distritos residenciales más antiguos de la ciudad de Zúrich. Se encuentra a un costado del río Limmat y a las faltas de la colina Lindenhof. Según registros históricos, esta parte de la ciudad antiguamente pertenecía al puerto del asentamiento romano conocido como Turicum. Si sabes alemán, en una de las placas informativas colocadas en la plaza puedes leer algo de la historia del sitio. El nombre de la plaza data del año 1292, cuando el registro más antiguo del que se tiene conocimiento indica que al sitio se le conocía como “Schüpfi”, que es una abreviación alemana para la frase “donde los barcos atracan”. Actualmente, la plaza Schipfe es un fotogénico sitio desde el que se tienen vistas espectaculares del costado este del Limmat, especialmente de las enormes torres de la iglesia protestante conocida como “Grossmünster”. Una recomendación es que visites el sitio por la mañana y en un día despejado.

Schipfe Square is the center of one of the oldest residential districts of the city of Zurich. It is located on the side of the Limmat river and the faults of the Lindenhof hill. According to historical records, this part of the city formerly belonged to the port of the Roman settlement known as Turicum. If you know German, in one of the information plaques placed in the square you can read some of the history of the site. The name of the square dates back to 1292, when the oldest known record indicates that the site was known as "Schüpfi", which is a German abbreviation for the phrase "where ships dock". Currently, the Schipfe Square is a photogenic site from which there are spectacular views of the eastern side of the Limmat, especially the huge towers of the Protestant church known as "Grossmünster". One recommendation is that you visit the site in the morning and on a clear day.
