The Best Beach in Puerto de la Cruz

For me, it’s the best beach in Puerto de la Cruz, since its quite big, approximately 700 meters long, and its location is good, since it’s only about 1500 meters from the center (Plaza del Charco). For example, if you go by car you have to take exit number 18.

It is an original beach, since I usually go to beaches with fine golden sand, and here it is the complete opposite: black and rough volcanic sand, it looks like small stones. You must be careful with the waves when you go inside the sea.

Jardín Beach

It has become the reference beach of Puerto de la Cruz. At the beginning there were complaints, saying that the natural life and the area’s ecosystems would be destroyed forever…But it is a beach that everyone that goes to Puerto de la Cruz enjoys.

Besides being a magnificent and clean black sand beach (the best one to get some sun and a great tan), it has all the necessary infrastructures to spend an unforgettable day: bars and restaurants, showers, changing booths, lifeguards, etc.

The water is very clean, although you must be careful with the currents, since it is open to the North Atlantic.

St. John's Bonfire

Like many Spanish municipalities, Puerto de la Cruz celebrates St. John’s Eve, and the main stage is Playa Jardín, where on June 23rd, the party lasts all night long (there is camping as well). Along the beach there are multiple bonfires, and afterwards there is a fireworks show that is beautiful, it seems as if they fly out of the ocean.

The rest of the year, this beach is the best one in Puerto de la Cruz. In the 90’s it was recovered by César Manrique, who converted it into a recreational area for all the family. Besides the beach, there is a beautiful promenade with exotic gardens, children’s areas and multiple terraces and cafeterias.

Must Be Visited

Playa Jardín is one of the most charming beaches I know. The first time I saw it I was stunned. The black sand, the banana trees, the gardens, and the majestic presence of the Teide in the background.

Very recommendable, an obliged visit.

Nice small beach

Excellent

Without too much mass tourism traps.
