Warm water without being too cold, waves for fun and miles of almost flat beach for walking, running or whatever you want. As you head to Oyambre, there are fewer and fewer people, and some areas of greater intimacy. Anyway, enjoy it to the fullest.
This is both the best and biggest beach in San Vicente. The beach is 4km long and is divided into several smaller beaches: El Rosal, Merón, Berderna, El Puntal, and Puñas Negras. The sand is white and fine but there’re usually heavy winds and the water is pretty rough; you need to be a good swimmer to go out but on the other hand it’s perfect for surfers! There are lifeguards during summer and they have an easy-to-understand sign system which lets you know the condition of the waters that day. There are showers and handicapped access areas.
Playa de Merón is astonishingly beautiful. It’s the main beach in San Vicente de la Barquera, though it’s a bit outside the city limits (around 3min. by car or 20min. walking). I haven’t been in the summertime so I’m not sure how crowded it gets, but I can say that it’s amazing in spring.
