Quiet nook inside the city

In my opinion, Plaça del Rei is one of the loveliest in Barcelona because it preserved the old architectural style. While the rest of the Gothic Quarter has developed, houses have been built, new buildings, palaces of the renaissance period and even modernist buildings like the Modern Art Museum, Plaça del Rei is still the same.

In the back there is the Palacio Real Mayor you can visit as part of the premises of Plaça del Rei, with the Palatina chapel and the owner's palace, which used to contain the archives of the crown of Aragon.

In the Padellas palace, there is the city's museum of history.

The four sides of the square

One of the oldest squares in the city. The facade of the Palacio Real Mayor (with the Salón del Tinell) stands in the back. On the right there is the Palatina Chapel or Capella de Santa Àgata and on the left the Palau del Lloctinent (the Owner's Palace) in which the archives of the Crown of Aragon has been located for a time, now moved to Almogàvers street. On the right, at the corner with Veguer street, there is the Clariana-Padellàs house, in which the Museum of History of the City is currently located.

Charming square

Lovely square in the center of Barcelona. It seems to take you to other places like Florence, or other Italian cities(even though some people don't really like the comparison). You should take the opportunity to listen to acoustic music, there is almost always someone playing there. Take a walk around the area, there's courtyards, fountains, etc.

Music, juggling, flamenco, etc.

Plaça del Rei is one of the spots of the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona where you go without knowing what awaits your or how long you'll stay. Music, gatherings, jugglers, flamenco or just the silence of the square when the sun rises. At about 5 pm the sun warms up the people sitting on the big circular stairs. There is a real mix of people: locals, young people, artists, tourists, etc. That day I stayed fairly late, until night fell and the lights of the square were turned on, making it even more beautiful.

Charming spot

What can I say about this lovely spot almost hidden in the old part of Barcelona? Just behind the fantastic cathedral you can find this charming spot in a small square. For its beauty and quiet atmosphere, many travelers take the opportunity to sit on the stairs at the entrance to admire what they have around or let a musician seduce them with classical music, giving an even more special sensation to this place. If you visit it I hope you will see it the same way I do.
