Chicago's Finest Pizza
Without a doubt, everyone who visits Chicago should sample Chicago-style (deep dish) pizza. The problem is, there are a lot of places to choose from and it can be overwhelming to decide which restaurant to eat at. I've been to a couple - the original Uno's, Lou Malnati's, Giordano's - but my favorite is Pizzeria Due.
Pizzeria Due is actually owned by Uno's but this location is far less crowded than the original Uno's. Maybe people don't know the history. Maybe the extra block walk makes it too difficult to get to. Who knows?
What you should know is that the food is divine. The deep, buttery crust is built to hold some serious toppings. They ladle on the sauce, add a generous serving of cheese, and then have a large selection of traditional ingredients to choose from. The sausage is where it's at, and I add some veggies on for good measure.
The pizza does take a little while to come out, but there's no problem waiting with a cold, local beer (try the Goose Island Matilda or Sophie). Or if you don't want to wait, call ahead and order your pizza to go. It's the same great food without a delay.
Whatever you decide, don't skip Pizzeria Due.
