Pio VI Square
Pope Pius VI died in Valence in the south of France. His heart is preserved in the church of St. Apollinaire. He was a contemporary of Napoleon Bonaparte and the French Revolution. As religion was forbidden by the new republican constitution, he spent his last years in exile in Valence. This small pedestrian square in the center of Valence is a tribute to Pius VI. There is a beautiful and rather modern fountain. In addition to the fountain, there are several statues and artwork. Behind is the city museum.
