A piece of flour milling history frozen in time
The Pillsbury A Mill building in downtown Minneapolis sits right alongside the Mississippi River- which was a perfect location to build up power from the Saint Anthony Waterfalls. When it was built in 1881 as one of the most advanced flour mills in the world (at the time!). They were able to produce 17,500 barrels of flour a day! It is a National Historic Landmark and is the only building of the original four large mills that sat in Minneapolis at the peak of flour milling. Today it sits empty, but stately and beautiful. Soon to become a remodel project that will turn it into lofts and living space for those that want to live near the heart of downtown Minneapolis.
The best way to arrived at the Pillsbury building from downtown Minneapolis is on foot. Walk across the Stone Arch Bridge- a pedestrian only bridge. Follow the river back up towards highway 65.
The best view of the Pillsbury building's famous sign is from the walk-out area around the Saint Anthony Falls. It is also quite beautiful up close and from the front.
