Pico Duarte

Aprendí que no es necesario ir a USA para conocer un verdadero frió, en el pico Duarte hace frío hasta en verano, el agua en todo el parque es como de nevera, incluso a las 12:00 del mediodía. Un ambiente de paz en aquellos montes, donde tocan tu alma el sonido de los pájaros y el viento, de los ríos y cascadas, de tu propio silencio, que se hace audible en aquel ambiente sencillo, con sonidos, pero silenciosos. Me alimentaba tan solo con mirar lo maravilloso de aquellas montañas y ríos, barrancos, veredas, puercos cimarrones que corren a distancia y gran velocidad, aves que vuelan sobre tu cabeza, llevan cantos y tonos de alegría. los verdes prados se reflejan en mi mente, aun los llevo conmigo, para siempre. Subir, bajar, volver y subir, volver a bajar, y aun falta tanto por llegar. comer si se puede, sino sera mas tarde. Caminas o vas en mulos y caballos, caminar te cansa, pero estar montado también. Cuentos y chistes, son la actividad mas practicada. En la parte mas alta de la República Dominicana y todo el caribe, puedes ver desde allí, presas, ríos, grandes extensiones de tierras, el valle de lili, el color verde forra la superficie, las aves gozan de esa bella vegetación. La nariz se te pierde, pero aun esta pegada, el frío no te deja sentirla. Es algo sensacional. Dormir en el suelo, ver tus compañeros estrellarse de sus monturas, pasar la noche cerca de una fogata para evitar el tac-tac-tac de los dientes, no poder dormir, porque los bromistas te acechan, es algo maravilloso. Secar la ropa con el fuego, si quieres secado rápido. Tu frente caliente, tu espalda congelada, mientras estas frente a la fogata. Es todo una maravilla, conocer es alimentarse, saber cuantas cosas bellas nos rodean.
