Named after a bishop
Bordeaux's historic district is named Pey Berland after a fourteenth century bishop of the city. He studied at Toulouse and returned to Bordeaux, where he left his mark, helping the Aquitaine church to return to its prior level. People didn't care about religion as there was no money, but thanks to Pey Berland this stopped. The Cathedral bears his name, as does the tower of the old cathedral. The district is easily accessible via 2 tram lines, red and blue. It's nice to discover on foot and many of the streets are pedestrian, with shops, bars and restaurants and it's a lively place day and night.
