Really worth a visit
We are at the home of the Padres baseball team, practically next door to the bay and pier, and close to the convention center. The stadium was renovated in 2004, and bears the name of Petco, a company dedicated to pets. It seats about 43,000 people, and when you're sitting there you can enjoy not only the game, but also stunning views of the city and the bay. Guided tours cost no more than $11 for adults and include the usual visits to changing rooms, boxes, lawn, press room ... But also, if you do not have time to visit or don't want to pay $11, from the bottom of the stadium in the "Park at the Park", you can see everything.
Fans can enjoy games here for around $5. Not the best place to enjoy baseball but better than nothing ... Also, this is a very well maintained area with gardens to stroll through during the day. Here is, for example, the statue of Tony Gwynn, aka "Mr. Padre", the batter who won eight league batting championships with the team. The statue was built in 2007. It's also worth pointing out the giant screen (9mx16 meters) that sits on the even bigger (11x25m) scoreboard. And right next door is a part of the stadium that is the most striking: the "Western Metal Supply", a part of the century-old red brick stands that were going to be demolished, but have been restored and attached to the new stadium. It is really worth going for a visit, even if you can't afford the time or money to see anything more than the Park at the Park.
