Pattini Temple is a small temple which is next to the temple of the tooth, and is part of the four main temples of Kandy, Kataragama, Natha and Vishnu. It is a quiet place, where there are few pilgrims. You have to remove your shoes when entering, and there is a security control throughout. They used to have several temples, under the patronage of Pattini next to Natha Temple. The temple is least four centuries old, but we do not know the exact story of its creation. Pattini is the goddess of chastity and was one of the most popular with the peasants. Her miracles are counted from the second century AD.

She is revered by Hindus and Buddhists. They say Pattini cures diseases, gives health to children, and brings rain in times of crop failure.
