Mills and unique topography

This low level trail, takes just over an hour and starts at the height of Vilaboa where we took the N-554 to reach the height of Rio Maior. We took a paved trail to the right that leads to the House of Culture of this place, at the trailhead. The place where the mills are situated, has a unique topography, through which flows the Rio Maior. On its banks are a lot of mills that formerly served as grain milling systems, for rye and corn in particular. If you follow the course of the river, there is a beautiful waterfall, known as "The Waterfall of Tras do Rio", and other smaller wones which have a great charm.

Along the way you will visit a set of 35 mills, scattered on both banks of the river, some of them are private, and do not allow access. The proposed path is a path of Short Route (PR-G), which runs through each of these mills, beginning in the House of Culture of Rio Maior, where you can find first mill and ends at the site of Bartáns, at the Miguel mill in Lois.

Ruta de los molinos de Rio Mayor

During this pleasant route you will come across lots of mills, we counted 34. Mills which formerly were used to crush cereal, the main corn, but also used to grind other foods such as wheat and rye grain with which we use to continue to develop our exquisite Galician bread. It's an easy route, about 12 km, making it suitable for children. It is a magical setting, with beautiful native vegetation and there is also a waterfall. There are many songs that are popular at parties that originate from this area, this is one of my favorites: "Unha not muiño noite, noite unha non e nothing unha iso yes enteira

Week é muiñada!"
