9 reviews of Corcovado National Park

Corcovado Jungle

On my second day at Corcovado Park, after a day on the beach accompanied by monkeys and birds, I had to cross one of many rivers. And after several days of rain, it was pretty rough and quiet an effort. I had to pair with a companion for safety's sake. We walked through the jungle for about 4 or 5 hours, taking advantage of the fact that we were the only human beings in this preserve. We looked for pumas and jaguars, kings of the park, before realising the truth that we were alone and defenceless! With with the help of the tides we crossed other river and entered the rainforest. It was extremely wet and difficult to put together the tent at night.

Admission is 8 euros per day, and there are tours from 2-5 days depending on what you want to see. The food available in the park is very basic, usually dehydrated soups. Its best to take your food with you. You can find really pure water in the rivers, chlorine tablets won't be necessary! The park has guarded chalets with twin rooms (8 euros a night), but you can camp in these places only, it's forbidden to camp alone, to keep the wild animals and you safe more than anything.

Unique nature reserve

Near the border with Panama, on the Osa Peninsula in southern Costa Rica, lies a unique nature reserve. According to National Geographic, its the most biodiverse place in the world. There are 25 different ecosystems found in 45000 hectares of land and 5,000 marine animals around the park. Many species are endemic to this area, the most protected of Costa Rica, a country that is leaps ahead of many others in terms of nature conservation. Costa Rica has no army, they call it the Switzerland of Central America. The only place you will see armed guards is on the beaches, protecting the turtles who come here to lay their eggs from poachers! In Corcovado you will find pumas, jaguars, tapirs, monkeys, and sharks in the sea area.

Corcovado National Park

Costa Rica is nature, and Corcovado is nature at its finest, a natural park of virgin forest. If you want you can have a 2 day trek or visit it all in one day, although there is much to see and enjoy there. A real haven for lovers of nature in the wild.
