Panel of Tiles (Rossio)
This decorative tile panel is one of the most striking works one can find in the Republic Square (known as Rossio). It is on a wall that saves the land from falling down between the square and Mother's Garden (Jardim das Maes). They were constructed in 1931 by Joaquim Lopes. In his art, which combine different shades of blues and whites, one can find typical aspects of daily life in the early 20th century, such as the cattle market (which was in this square), grazing and other traditional crafts of the region.
