Botatoung Pagoda

4 reviews of Botatoung Pagoda

Relics of Buddha

This is one of the most sacred pagodas for Buddhists, as it houses relics of Buddha's body and hair. If you are a tourist with a camera you must pay to go in, but you will not take pictures, and nobody controls what you do once inside. You may see Buddhists praying in a crowd in the both areas where the relics of the Buddha are located, and also attended a ceremony of release of hundreds of birds in cages of wood.

The Second Pagoda of Yangon

The city of Yangon has two stunning pagodas, the first, and the most famous, is the Shwedagon Pagoda, while the other is the Botahtaung pagoda. The second is on the street that bears the same name. It has a stupa filled with a mirror. The Botahtaung Pagoda was completely destroyed during WWII, but was rebuilt afterwards. It's sacred to the Burmese as it contains a relic of Buddha, a hair that's very sacred. The pagoda is hollow inside and surrounding it there is a famous market with the same name. You have to pay to see it, and for us, it was included in the tour we were on, so I don't know how

Much it costs, but knowing the country, I don't think much it's much.

The hollow zedi

Located at the end of the Stand Avenue, a hundred meters worth of the hotel of the same name, this pagoda pay ($ 5 government tax) is not as beautiful as the main or one of the roundabout centra Rangoon but lde worth the detour for its architecture all in gold. Tip: no need to pay to admire, walk up the between!
