An indispensable museum

Excellent

Pablo Gargallo Museum is a must if you visit Zaragoza (Aragon, Spain). As the name suggests, it is dedicated to the sculptor Pablo Gargallo. The works of this artist are strikingly beautiful, showcasing the power of negative space, and seeming to speak from the voids that are not filled by metal or stone. Located in the Plaza de San Felipe in the historic centre of the city, it is a magnificent setting to showcase Gargallo's works. On the ground floor you'll find reception and the permanent collection (Gargallo's formative years, public sculptures and commissions).

Upstairs is the audiovisual room, where an interesting 15-minute documentary about his life is shown, and above that, on the 2nd floor, you can see an explanation of the process of casting a sculpture. On the 3rd floor are sculptures from 1904 to 1934 from the permanent collection and a small adjoining room with an audiovisual display about the history of the building that you shouldn't miss. The 4th floor holds documentation, the 5th has the most creative sculptures of the permanent collection, the 6th a library, and the 7ths cartoons, prints and drawings by Gargallo. Furthermore, there are two basements for temporary exhibitions - not only painting or sculpture, but photography, too.
